Artists converge on GSAC for Aussie Battlers Survival Day

|
Aussie Battlers Survival Day on 26 January will be jam packed this year with some awesome local and interstate talent, including uber pop-locker Enigma, the dynamic local Indigenous dancer and musician Dhinawan Dreaming, and Nimbin’s own graffiti master Zac Bryce.

The artists will perform their demos and showcases amongst the Aussie Battlers hip-hop comps and battles at Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 26 January.

Enigma - aka Lenny Trae from Frankston Victoria - is one of Australia’s top exponents of Popping and Locking, and will be running a pop-locking Master Class during the day.
The ‘Lock’ is similar to a freeze or a sudden pause and the Lockers’ dance is characterised by consistently locking in place and after a quick move freezing the move again. Popping is based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer's body, referred to as a pop or a hit. Enigma is sure to excite the local hip-hop cru’s with his spectacular moves.

Dynamic Indigenous artist Dhinawan Dreaming will be presenting the best of local Australian Indigenous culture and dance on the day. Dhinawan has travelled the world playing Didgeridoo, dancing and using storytelling to promote awareness and understanding about Indigenous culture.

As if that wasn’t enough to get you pop-locking off your seat, Nimbin’s star graffiti artist Zac Bryce will also be presenting a Graffiti demo on the day.

And of course there will be the Aussie Battlers hip-hop comps, beatboxing and rapping throughout the day, which is your chance to get out on the floor and bust some moves, to get in the running for one of the awesome prizes on offer.

Buses will be running between Nimbin and Lismore, and for more travel information, contact Mitch King at Youth Connections North Coast Inc on mitchk@ycnc.com.au.

To participate, just show up on the day at Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre between 12 and 4pm on Aussie Battlers Survival Day, Wednesday 26 January 2011.
